Silvane MCP 0.8.0 changes how your AI sees Silvane, and adds twelve things it can do for you.
If you use Silvane from Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant through the MCP server, your assistant used to read a list of 90 tools before every answer: one tool per operation. In 0.8.0 the same work, plus everything new, fits in 32 tools. Your assistant reads a third less each turn, answers more of your requests right, and costs less to run.
This post covers the change and then each new thing to ask, with real questions and the answers they got.
32 tools instead of 90
Most tools now group the operations that act on the same thing as actions. One tool reads a deck: its cards, its value, or what you still need to build it. Another changes a deck's cards: add them or set a count. Your assistant picks the tool and the action from what you ask, and you ask the same way as before.
What changed for your assistant, measured on Silvane's own test of 155 requests with two Claude models:
The tool list it reads every turn went from 63,639 tokens to 42,755, a third less, while it gained twelve new capabilities. Without the change, adding them would have taken it to 77,442.
It got 99% of the requests right, up from 86–87% before. The new tools account for part of that: requests the old server could not answer now work.
A request costs about a third less to run on Claude Sonnet, since each turn carries a shorter list.
Nothing you have to do. The server address, your sign-in and your data stay the same. If your assistant still has the old list, the old names keep working (see the older tool names). ChatGPT keeps the list it read when you connected: open the Silvane app in ChatGPT's settings and choose Refresh to load the new one.
Is my deck legal, and what bracket is it?
Your assistant now gets the same verdict the app and the deck Studio show, from the same engine. It checks Commander, Modern, Standard, Pioneer, Legacy and Vintage, names the card behind each problem, and for Commander gives the bracket with the Game Changers, mass land denial and extra-turn cards it found.
Adrian spent twenty years building software for companies around the world, and still, his favorite day of the week is Thursday, because Thursday is Commander night. Silvane started as the collection tracker he built for his own cards, one Thursday at a time. He writes about the market with the same data that powers the app.
It can also check a deck against another format ("would this be legal in Modern?") or a list that is not a deck yet, such as one read from a link. More in legality and Commander bracket.
Deal me a hand
Your assistant can deal games from one of your decks with Silvane's playtest engine: the opening seven, the draw each turn (in Commander, played multiplayer, turn 1 included) and London mulligans (the first one is free in Commander). Every game has a seed, so it can show the same game again, or the next hand after one more mulligan. It deals and draws; nothing is played.
An opening hand and three turns of draws, turn 1 included.
It also works out a deck's odds exactly: lands in the opening seven, hitting each land drop, enough sources of each color by each turn, and drawing a card you name by a given turn. How often the deck keeps 7, 6 or 5 cards is simulated, and the answer says which figures are which. On the Free plan a game stops at turn 2. Details in test hands and draw odds.
What did I add this week?
Your collection and each binder now sort by date added, newest first, and filter to a period.
Recent additions, newest first.
A card's date is the day it first went into that binder or tracked deck in that printing, condition and language, so more copies of a card you already had don't show up as new. More in date added.
What were these worth on a past date?
Ask for up to 500 cards, or a whole binder or list, on a past date in the price source you choose. A card with no price that day takes the latest one from the 7 days before, and the answer says so.
Three cards at Cardmarket on October 1, in euros.
It is the question to ask when you log a purchase you made weeks ago, or want to know what a binder was worth the day you bought it. On the Free plan the date can be up to 90 days back. See prices on a past date.
Read a Silvane link
Paste a silvane.app link and your assistant reads what any visitor sees: a binder or list, a deck, a precon, a Secret Lair drop, a saved view, a profile or its For Trade and Wants pages. For a deck or a precon it lists what you still need and what that costs. For a binder, list, view or For Trade page it can say which of your decks need the cards there.
What a precon would take to build from your collection.
A private or deleted page answers like a mistyped link. More in deck links.
Use the Tray
The Tray is the staging basket the app and the web share. Your assistant can read it, stage cards, fix a staged card's count, finish, condition, language or printing, remove rows, and file the whole Tray into one binder, list, deck, sale or purchase, the way the Tray's Add button does. Try "put these 12 cards in my tray", then "file my tray into my Trades binder". What could not be filed stays in the Tray with the reason. See the Tray.
Move and fix many copies at once
In one request your assistant can move or copy cards between binders and lists, or change their language, condition or for-trade mark. It picks the copies by name, by the same filters as a collection search ("every card over $20 in Bulk"), or all of them, the same changes as the bulk Move and Edit in the app.
A move keeps each copy's purchase price, notes, for-trade mark, date added and tags. For a large change your assistant can first show what would change without changing anything. Before it edits the language or condition of copies that have notes, it tells you, because those notes are not carried over. Details in moving and editing many copies.
Also in this release
A card asked for in foil or etched is a printing made in that finish. "One foil Lightning Bolt" no longer lands on a printing never made in foil; a card never made in that finish is reported instead of added. The same holds for the Tray, binders, decks, sales, purchases and the watchlist.
Adding cards is all or nothing. When a write failed part way, the cards already added stayed and a retry added them twice. Each call now adds every card or none.
Adding the same new card several times at once keeps every copy.
What's new in Silvane 0.9.17: a scanner that recognizes your cards
A new scanner that recognizes your cards by their picture and in their language, Secret Lair drops with pages of their own, and precons to search and sort.
