Scanning
Scanning tips
Get the highest hit rate out of the scanner.
- Light it evenly. Glare is the number-one cause of misreads — tilt the card away from direct light, especially foils.
- Fill the frame. Get close enough that the card occupies most of the preview.
- Hold still for a beat. The multi-frame consensus needs a few stable frames; a half-second pause beats a fast sweep.
- Tap to focus. If the preview looks soft, tap the card on screen — a white pulse confirms the focus point.
- Use set lock for boxes. Scanning a booster box or a bulk lot from one set? Locking the set removes ambiguity between reprints.
- Foils and etched: after the match, confirm the finish in the tray — the camera can't always tell a foil from its normal twin.
- Sleeved cards scan fine if the sleeve is clean and matte; heavy glare sleeves may need a different angle.
