Backups
What a .silvane file carries, what it leaves out, and what a restore does.
Backups are app-only: Profile → Data & Backups. The web has no backup screen.
They are not the same thing as sync. Sync copies a deletion too.
A portable file, for everyone
Export your account as a single signed .silvane file. Keep it
anywhere, and import it later to restore, or to clone an account's contents
into another account.
Cloud snapshots, on Pro
Silvane Pro
Cloud snapshots are a Pro feature, and so is restoring one.
Server-side snapshots of your account: create one before a big reorganization, restore to any of them, pin the ones that matter and delete the rest.
Unpinned snapshots rotate out as new ones arrive. Silvane keeps 10 unpinned manual snapshots and 5 unpinned safety snapshots. Pinning is what makes one permanent.
What a backup carries
- Your profile: username, display name, avatar and your three sort modes.
- Collections: binder and list folders, the collections themselves and every card in them.
- Decks: deck folders, decks, their cards, their history and your custom categories.
- Tags and the cards they are on.
- Watchlist folders and items.
- Price alerts and their events, including each alert's market.
- Your daily collection value history.
- Views and view folders.
- The Ledger: sale buyers, batches, orders and lines; purchase vendors, orders and lines.
- Loans: people and the cards they hold.
A restore also brings back a deck's or a view's public link and visibility, and your saved layouts. Restoring into another account never publishes anything: everything lands private with a fresh link.
What it does not carry
- Recently deleted. A backup is of live data, and a restore erases rows outright, so nothing you had deleted comes back and nothing you delete by restoring goes there.
- The Tray, build sessions and scan history.
- Caches, such as a deck's counts and values, which are recomputed.
- Your price source.
What a restore does
Restoring — a file or a snapshot — is a full replace, and the app says so before proceeding: Replace everything? Your current collections, decks, views, folders, tags, watchlist, alerts, sales, purchases and loans are erased and the backup's contents load in their place.
- A safety snapshot is saved first, for everyone. Restoring that snapshot is Pro, so on the Free plan the snapshot exists but cannot be rolled back to.
- Cards the backup references that no longer resolve are skipped, not guessed.
- Restoring another account's file imports it as a copy.
