Backups & sync
Multi-device sync, portable .silvane files, and Pro cloud snapshots.
Three layers keep your collection safe:
Sync (everyone, automatic)
Your collection is stored locally and synced to the cloud continuously — sign in anywhere and it's all there. See Account & sync. Sync is not a backup: a deletion syncs too (though the recycle bin catches it for 30 days).
Portable backup file (everyone)
Export your entire account — collections, decks, tags, everything — as a single signed .silvane file from Profile → Backups. Keep it anywhere; import it later to restore, or to clone an account's contents (including across accounts). This is your offline, in-your-hands copy.
What restoring means
Restoring — a .silvane file or a cloud snapshot — is a full replace,
and the app says so before proceeding ("Replace everything?"): your
current collection, decks, views, folders, tags, watchlist, alerts, sales and
loans are erased and the backup's contents load in their place. Three
safety nets:
- A safety snapshot is saved first, so you can roll back a restore.
- Cards the backup references that no longer resolve are skipped, not guessed.
- Restoring another account's file imports it as a copy (share links start private on the clone).
Cloud backups (Pro)
Silvane Pro
Cloud backups are a Pro feature.
Server-side snapshots of your whole account: create one before a big reorganization, restore to any snapshot, pin the ones that matter, and delete the rest. Unpinned snapshots rotate out automatically as new ones arrive — pinning is what makes one permanent. Think of it as a time machine for your collection.
