Card languages

A copy's language is part of what the card is. Silvane stores it, shows the printed name, and re-keys the copy onto the real printing in that language.

How a name is shown

A non-English copy shows its printed name first, with the English name as a smaller suffix:

This applies everywhere cards appear: search results, binders and lists, Owned Cards, decks, views, the Tray and the scan tray, the watchlist, the Ledger, sales, purchases and loans, set pages, deck ideas, the movers, card detail and the edit screen. Foreign prints also carry a small language badge (ES, JA, DE) on tiles and print cells, and card detail spells the language out next to the rarity.

Lists that sort by name sort by what the card says. A foreign print of a reskin shows its foreign printed name, with the oracle name in parentheses.

Card detail

• Rules text renders in the printing's language, fetched online. A toggle in the Oracle Text header flips to the English text and back, double-faced cards included. It is labelled with the language it will switch you to, so it reads English while the printed text is showing.
• Type lines stay English.
• Other Prints lists the printings in that card's language. A row of language tabs above the rail reloads it in any other language the card was printed in.

Changing a copy's language

Every copy's language is editable from its edit screen.

• The picker only offers languages the print exists in.
• Picking one re-keys the copy onto that language's printing — same set, same collector number — so the art, the collector data and the price follow the real object. These printings are language twins.
• Finishes are guarded. If your quantities sit on a finish the selected printing was never made in, Save explains the conflict and waits until you zero that finish or pick another printing.
• Change print lists printings in the copy's language. Pick a printing that exists in one language only and the copy's language follows it.

The scan tray has the same Language row, and re-keys a draft the same way before it reaches your binder.

Finding a card by its printed name

Type a name in any language and Silvane resolves the card, with no filter to set: Cultivar, Blitzschlag, Anel Solar, 太陽の指輪. Accents are optional in the app; the web's header search is accent-sensitive, so type them there. Elsewhere

• Importing resolves real foreign printings from Moxfield binder and collection URLs. Deck URLs and CSV imports do not carry a language. See Importing.
• Share links show visitors the same printed names and badges, and visitors can search a shared collection by printed name.
• MCP reads carry the printed name and the language.

Offline

Your copies' names and languages live on your device, so everything that displays keeps working offline. Three things need a connection:

• Printed rules text. Offline, card detail shows the English text.
• The Other Prints language tabs. Offline, the rail shows the English printings.
• The full language list when editing a copy. Offline, the picker offers the current language and English, and widens once you are back online.
