Creating & editing decks

Create a deck

In the app — the Decks tab's ＋ offers Create Deck, Create Folder and Import Deck. Create Deck asks for a name and a format, Commander by default, and the same sheet holds the optional extras: cover art, the Count in collection switch (tracking), a folder and the commander picker. An empty My Decks shows the same ways in: Import Deck, Start from a precon (the precon picker) and Create Deck.

On the web — the header ＋ → Deck, or New deck on your Decks page. A new deck opens straight in the Studio, outside any folder.

A new deck from an import

Import Deck names the deck after the source, else Imported deck. Its format is the one the source names — deck links from Moxfield, Archidekt, ManaBox, TCGplayer and MTGTop8 can carry one; otherwise it is Commander when the list marks a commander, and No format when it doesn't. Nothing is read from the cards, and a file or a pasted list names no format. Importing into a deck you already have keeps its format. To change a format: Actions → Edit in the app, More → Deck settings on the web.

The three boards

• Main — the deck itself.
• Sideboard — for formats that use one.
• Considering — cards you are testing. They count toward nothing: not deck totals, not legality, and not your owned copies.

Every entry stores its exact printing and finish.

Adding cards

In the app, the deck bar's Add button offers the same three ways binders and lists have:

• Scan — the camera opens locked onto the deck, and committing the tray drops the cards straight into the mainboard.
• Search — every tap on a printing's finish chip drops a copy into the active board.
• Import — a file, a pasted decklist or a URL.

On the web, the deck page and the Studio both have Add Card. See Adding cards and Importing.

The search field inside a deck screen does something different: it filters what is already there, and never adds.

The deck screen in the app

The bar at the bottom has four groups:

Beside them sit Lock, Playtest and Actions.

Four view modes: List (compact rows with a thumbnail), Stack (overlapped columns, MTGA style), Visual (a full card grid, image only) and Visual + details (the grid with name, set and quantity).

Group by No grouping, Category, Type, Mana value, Rarity, Color, Set or Tags. Sort by Name, Mana value, Price or Color identity. The finish and copy-mode tags sit next to each card's name.

Category shows the columns of the web Studio, in the Studio's order: a card's own category, else the one the Studio gives it, such as Ramp or Card draw. Only Main is split; Sideboard and Considering stay one group each. Categories are edited in the Studio only; the app reads them.

The deck screen on the web

The deck page has the same four view modes, minus Visual + details, whose binder-style grid is what the web calls Visual. It groups by the same keys and sorts by the same four, with an ascending and descending toggle. Category shows the Studio's columns, as in the app; Sideboard and Considering stay one group each, and a visitor sees the same groups as the owner. Tags is offered to the owner only.

A card's ⋮ menu holds three groups, in order: what you do with the card (Add to, Edit, Change print, Tags), then how the copy is held (proxy and shared copy), then Remove, alone. More carries Deck settings, Change commander, Select cards, Clone, Import cards, Export, Download decklist and Move to folder, then Empty and Delete, and the owner sees a legality banner that opens the Studio's Legal tab.

On a phone the list scrolls sideways and the piled views open a card on tap. For anything heavier, the Studio is the web's deck editor.

Editing a card in the app

The Lock toggle drives everything:

• Locked — on a phone, tapping a card opens the card quick view: the card large over the deck, with Details, Edit, Add to, Move, Watch and Delete (Details, Add to and Watch on a precon or someone else's deck). A swipe moves through the deck and the list behind follows. On a tablet, tapping a card opens card detail.
• Unlocked — tapping a card opens its edit sheet at the bottom: the Finish row when the printing comes in more than one, the Board row (Deck, Side, Consider, with their counts) between the − and + steppers, and Print, Tag, Detail, More and Delete.
• Press and hold a card, in either mode, to enter multi-select.

The edit sheet leaves the deck live: a tap on another card switches the sheet to it. Swipe the card in the sheet sideways to edit the card before or after, and the deck scrolls along. Drag the sheet down, tap its ✕ or press Android's back to close it. Locking the deck or leaving the Deck tab closes it too.

Edit in the quick view unlocks the deck and opens the edit sheet, with the card above it. A swipe in either one moves both, and closing the sheet locks the deck again.

More holds Use as commander, Split printings…, Language…, Add to…, Move to…, and the Proxy, Tracked and Shared copy rows. See Proxies, untracked cards and shared copies.

Tokens

A deck's Tokens view lists every token and emblem its cards can create. The list is derived from each card's related cards in the catalog, not from its rules text, and identical tokens from several cards collapse into one entry with all of its creators.

• In the app — Deck → Tokens. Tapping one opens a sheet with Created by and, on your own deck, Change print.
• On the web — a Tokens section under the boards on the deck page, visible to anyone who can open it, and the Studio's Tokens tab.

The print you pick is stored on the deck, so everyone who opens it sees the same one.

Organizing decks

Group decks into folders, and folders into folders, three levels deep. A folder opens as its own screen: the folders inside it first, then its decks, with a header that counts the decks it holds at every level (12 decks · 9 tracked). The ＋ at the bottom offers Create Deck and, while a folder still fits there, Create Folder. Inside a folder that sits in another one, a line over the title names the folders above it.

Press and hold a deck for Move: the folder picker opens with your deck folders as a tree, and No folder takes the deck out of all of them.

Press and hold a folder for its actions:

• Edit renames or recolors it.
• Move puts it inside another folder, with everything it holds, or back out with No folder.
• Delete keeps what it holds: its decks and the folders inside it move up one level.
• Reorder drags the folders of that level into place. Decks themselves follow the sort button.
• Select folders starts a selection, to move or delete several at once.

A folder's row counts its decks at every level and the folders directly inside it: 9 decks · 2 folders. My Decks' header counts everything: 44 decks · 29 tracked, and 3 folders once you have one. In Settings → Sorting & layout you choose whether deck folders sit side by side or one per row (Sorting & layout).

On the web, your Decks page makes, renames, recolors and deletes deck folders, and makes one inside another with New folder from inside it. More → Move to folder on a deck's page moves the deck into a folder (Change folder when it is already in one), and More → Move inside a folder moves the folder: see Moving things.

Deleting a deck sends it and its cards to Recently deleted and releases any copies it held.

Cloning

Clone copies a deck into a new binder, list or deck — you pick which. In the app it is in the deck's Actions sheet (and when you press and hold a deck); on the web it is the More menu on the deck's page. It works the same on your own decks, on public decks and on precons; a Secret Lair drop clones into a binder or a list (see Precons & Secret Lair).

• As a deck — another deck with the same commander, cards and boards. In the app, cloning your own deck also keeps its categories, tags and copy modes; on the web, the Studio's Duplicate deck does.
• As a binder or list — the commander, mainboard and sideboard, each card as Near Mint, English, in its finish. Considering stays out, and so do proxies.

The Studio's ⋮ menu also has Duplicate deck, which makes another deck. To send only some cards to a binder or list, multi-select them and use the bulk bar's Add or Move.
